funny face

Katydid adores Audrey Hepburn movies. She started watching the black and white version of Sabrina on her own when she was 5. As a way to combine a bit of Audrey and musicals, we like to watch Funny Face. It's a spunky little movie with Kay Thompson (who also wrote the Eloise books) as a fashion editor, Fred Astaire as the old bachelor photographer, and Audrey as a beatnik intellectual,"Jo Stockton". She is convinced the best way to meet her philosopher hero in Paris is to give in and join the editor and photographer and be transformed from socially conscious bookstore clerk into high fashion model.

Not only does the film include the great songs "Think Pink" (a theme carried over into the Eloise movies) and "S wonderful", but the wonderful George and Ira Gershwin title song "Funny Face".

SONG OF THE DAY: "Funny Face" - performed by Fred Astaire

HIGHLIGHTED COVER: "Funny Face" - Ella Fitzgerald (I discovered the Ella version about 10 years before I found the movie, so it's really the version I have in my memory)

OTHER NOTABLE COVERS:

"Funny Face" - Rosemary Clooney
