tapes for tuesday: a series part 3


I first heard about The Judybats from my friend Jared in 1993 and they quickly became a top 10 favorite.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that they got their name from the 17th century puppets, Punch and Judy and the ever-present bat the spastic Punch used for walloping those who crossed his path.

They came out of Tennessee which contributes a bit to their twangy middle-america vibe. The debut album Native Son isn't their best, but the little green tape has been a well-played member of my collection.
